The Star Walker of the month is a woman who captured the hearts of many throughout her career with her signature layered hairstyle along with her legendary beauty. Her inner beauty has turned out to be even more appealing than her outer beauty. She brought her A game to any role in theater or film that would lead to building public awareness of domestic violence. She has also made note worthy contributions to the American Cancer Society. Most recently, she has demonstrated to the world her awesome courage and faith in God by sharing her battle with cancer (including the loss of her celebrated locks of hair) with the public.
Born an Angel Farrah was born Ferrah Leni Fawcett on February 2, 1947 in Corpus Christi, Texas to her parents Pauline and Jim Fawcett. Pauline was a housewife and Jim was an oil field contractor. Farrah attended John J. Pershing Middle School in Houston Texas until 1962. The former middle school is now a magnet program for fine arts. She entered high school at W.B.Ray High School in Houston where she earned the title of “Most Beautiful Student”. In the fall of 1965 she would go on to attend the University of Texas in Austin. She majored in Art and Microbiology, but did not earn her degree right away, due to the advice of a celebrity publicist, she dropped out of college to move to Hollywood, California to become a model, it was 1968. She would earn her degree in microbiology later.
Her Stellar Career Within 2 weeks of her arrival in Hollywood, Farrah landed a modeling contract. Shortly afterward she began accepting job offers for TV commercials such as ads for Wella Balsam hair products. By the early 1970’s, she appeared in cameo performances on several popular television shows such as, “I Dream of Jeanie”, “The Partridge Family”, “The Sonny And Cher Comedy Hour”, and “The Six Million Dollar Man”, which featured her then husband, Lee Majors. In 1976, Farrah was rocketed to super stardom when she landed the role of Jill Monroe, (a former policewoman) on the hit television series, “Charlie’s Angels”. Her part on that show was however cut short, as she quit the show after the first season, which brought about a lawsuit from Aaron Spelling, the show’s producer, future friend and mentor to Farrah. They subsequently settled out of court with Farrah agreeing to make several cameo appearances on the show over the next few years. Later that year, she appeared on one of the most well known pin-up posters in American pop culture history.
Farrah went on to star in many made for TV movies as well as the big screen with movies such as, “Cannonball Run”, “Nazi Hunter (The Kate Karsfeild Story)”, “Poor Little Rich Girl (The Barbara Hutton Story)”, Double Exposure”, “Criminal Behavior”, “The Substitute Wife”, “Dr. T, And The Women”, just to name a few. She received national recognition for her roles which raised awareness for domestic violence in movies such as, “The Burning Bed”, “Small Sacrifices”, “The Guardian”, and” Extremities”. Her performances lead to her receiving no less than 3 Emmy nominations as well.
Farrah’s Love Life In 1968, Farrah met rising star Lee Majors through his agent. The couple began a well publicized courtship which eventually grew into a budding romance. They were married in July of 1973 on the 5th anniversary of the day they met. They remained married until their separation in 1979. The divorce became final in 1982. Shortly after her separation from Majors in 1979, Farrah met the man who would become her long time soul mate, Ryan O’Neal. The two fell in love and had a son, Redmond, in 1985.
A Troubled Farrah 2006 was an extremely difficult year for Farrah. She suffered the loss of her longtime agent and friend, Jay Bernstein, as well as her beloved mother, Polly. She was also saddened by the passing of her longtime friend and mentor, Aaron Spelling. The year 2006 however held more tragic news for Farrah. She was diagnosed with a fatal form of cancer. Soon afterward, doctors found a number of tumors on her liver. It was then that O’Neal would vow to be there for her also, “no matter what”, and that watching her die of cancer was like being stabbed through the heart. While Farrah was receiving treatment, she was documenting the battle for her life on film. Searching for an alternate treatment, Farrah underwent a series of unconventional treatments in Germany. In February 2007(on her 60th birthday), she was told that she was tumor free. and that the cancer was treatable. This news brought a renewed joy to the actress, and the life began to return to her and light up her face with that famous warm smile and playful spirit, which has become a trademark for Farrah Fawcett. Three months later in May of 2007, a routine doctor’s visit revealed more tumors on her liver, and her cancer was spreading. Farrah was now again face to face with the fight for her life. Searching for an alternate treatment, throughout her battle with cancer, Farrah has remained steadfast in the belief that she will be safe in the hands of God “no matter what” his will for her but she was willing to fight for her life without ever giving up. Today, Farrah remains in her home with the love of her life, Ryan O’Neal close by her side. She is reported to be too weak at present date and not able to travel to Germany for further treatments. Recently it has been rumored that Ryan O’Neal and Farrah Fawcett will be married soon. We find that honorable and the sign of a couple who truly loved one another and are happy to express that long lasting love to the whole world, “no matter what”, the impending outcome.
